WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH WOMEN TODAY 2? : ‘My wife beats me up at will’

Mr. Tochukwu Toju has pleaded with the Ikeja Customary Court to dissolve his marriage to Sandra Toju. The couple had their traditional marriage in Anambra West Local Government Area of Anambra State in 2005 and their union has produced two children. Tochukwu said he was seeking divorce because both of them usually fight.
He also said that his wife harasses him publicly and always threatens his life.
He said his main reason for leaving the house was his wife’s attempt to poison him and the fact that she ruined his business. “I have never seen a woman as callous and wicked as this woman. She beats me constantly and would harass me anywhere even on the street calling me names and tearing my clothes.
She would use any object available to her on me and I have sustained all kinds of injuries from that in the past.
She has done that severally and I cannot stand that anymore, so I had to run for my dear life” he said. Tochukwu made more allegations against his wife: “She has been making attempts to poison me and that is why I had to run away for my dear life. If I knew things would turn out this way, I would never have married her.
When I met her, she already had two children from another man. I treated her with love and gave her all I had. She ruined my businesses and now wants to kill me in addition.
I will rather die than go back to this woman. She has ruined me enough and I will not wait for her to kill me before I run” he said. He asked the court to give the custody of the two children to his wife as he has not been responsible for their upkeep since he left home.
When he was asked to consider his children and go back to his wife, he said, “I would rather commit suicide than go back to my wife.” Sandra, the wife also said she was already tired of the whole situation and would readily comply to divorce her husband. She said, “I am tired of his behaviour.
He is irresponsible and only knows how to drink and chase everything in skirt. When you ask him for money for upkeep, he never has anything to give but he knows how to spend on girls and alcohol.
She said all her husband said were lies. “Of what use will it be to me if I poison him. He is just saying all that to appear like a good person or like the victim. They are all blatant lies.
He abandoned the children and I for over eight months and went to live with another woman. Whenever we were not at home, he would sneak in to come and ransack the house and make away with our money and valuables. I even caught him red handed once and gave him a serious fight,” she said. The court president later adjourned the case to the 23rd of July for judgment.
