OGA AT THE TOP (COMMANDANT GENERAL OF NSCDC DR ADE ABOLURIN) FINALLY SPEAKS UP, EVEN TELLS OF HOW HE REJECTED N10M BRIBE (?) : “He has not committed any offence” – NSCDC boss clears Lagos Commandant ... I rejected a N10million bribe – NSCDC Commandant-General

Ade-Abolurin

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has cleared the Lagos State Commandant of the Corps, Mr Obafaiye Shem, of any ‘wrongdoing’ over his inability to name the organisation’s website during a live interview on Channels Television recently.
The Commandant-General of the Corps, Dr. Ade Abolurin, made this known wednesday in Abuja, at the annual national cooperative corps, saying that Shem did not commit any crime in the blunder, contrary to the rumours making the rounds that he has been suspended.
Abolurin, who did not confirm whether the commandant was on suspension or not, said if Shem was being interviewed and in the process lost his composure, it should not call for a sanction.
When approached by journalists to know his position on the matter, the NSCDC boss said: “It is an internal measure, we will keep you posted. We are still on course because he has not committed any offence. If a person is being interviewed and in the process he could not comport himself that does not result to a crime, it is a question of maturity,” he stated.
The popular slogan, ‘My oga at the top’ joke recently emanated from the Channels interview with Shem had since gone viral in all the social networking sites.
Speaking further, Abolurin gave an insight on what the corps was doing to engage its officers in more training and retraining exercise, especially for internal security operations.
“You know I am an advocate of building skills, encouraging training human development and capacity building. We are trying at all level to ensure that our men are well trained, well articulated because training is suppose to be continuous,” he added.
While speaking on the plan of NSCDC cooperative society to affect lives positively within the corps, the President of the cooperative, Deputy Corps Commandant, Abi David, said there was plan to immediately commence building of the cooperative secretariat (comprising supermarket, store and five standard offices) via manual labour, which he added would be inaugurated by their grand patron.

The commandant general of the Nigeria security and civil defence corps (NSCDC), Prof Ade Abolurin yesterday made a startling revelation of how he recently turned down an offer of over N10m from a group which wanted to supply laptops to his organisation.
The NSCDC boss who also disclosed how  he shunned a team of private developers who attempted to induce him financially to have him approve their proposal for a mass housing scheme for the corps boasted that he has never sought for nor collected bribe from anyone either in his years of professional practice or in a decade of public service.
He made this revelation while fielding questions from newsmen at the end of the NSCDC national staff cooperative summit, held in Abuja, where he charged his officers and men to shun corruption at all levels, in order not to betray the public trust and confidence on them.
Abolurin who noted that he rejected the offer to maintain his integrity and to uphold the professionalism of the NSCDC   said, “Integrity and professionalism are core values of the civil defence corps. And in rejecting the bribe, I have exemplified those values, which you must not only commend but emulate”.
“Let this also serve as a reminder for all like-minded  individuals that the integrity of the corps cannot be compromised”, Abolurin warned.
He condemned in totality, mockery directed at the corps’ Lagos State Commandant, Mr Obafaiye Shem, whom he said had not committed any punishable offence that would warrant his suspension as wrongly speculated in the social media.
He said the fact that his Lagos State commandant lost his composure in the process  of being interviewed does not call for sanction.
He however did not confirm whether the man was on suspension or not.
It would be recalled that the much celebrated saga, “My oga at the top” came into lime light after the said commandant granted an interview to Channel Television.
