Even as students prepare to sit for their Joint Admission Matriculations Board (JAMB) examinations this Saturday, the registrar of the examination body, Prof. Dibu Oyerinde, has revealed that his home was attacked on Monday night by suspected assassins who came looking for him.
He said that the intruders scaled the fence of the
house, entered through the back door and gained entrance into the house
while the security men attached to the compound did not notice as they
were stationed at the gate of the house.
And all through the period that the operation lasted,
the security personnel stationed at Oyerinde’s house, which included
two armed policemen and other private security guards, were unaware.
Oyerinde disclosed that he was on an official
assignment at the time, but the men continuously asked his children and
relations who are staying with him told him about his whereabouts. HE
said despite telling them that he had travelled on an official
assignment, the men were not convinced but searched his living and study
rooms.
According to reports:
At that point, the assassins decided to look for him through the ceiling of the house. They moved from one ceiling to the other after locking up the occupants in one of the living rooms, thinking he was hiding up in the ceiling. They ransacked every nook and cranny of the house before they left. After the robbers had left, the occupants informed the security men, who sprang into action, looking for the assassins.According to Prof. Ojerinde, the brigands did not take anything from the expansive residence despite the thorough search they conducted. He confirmed that he had travelled officially in preparation for tomorrow’s Unified Matriculation Tertiary Examination (UMTE).The registrar informed that the incident has been reported to the Maitama Police Area Command, a report actually confirmed by the Divisional Police Officer in-charge of the command, Mr Danladi Isa.The DPO said the command had swung into action to unravel the motive behind the mission of the intruders.Meanwhile, the policemen and private guards attached to the house have been arrested, detained and are being interrogated by the police.
