Officers and men of the Ogun State Police Command have rescued a former Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Archbishop Peter Jasper Akinola.
Akinola was kidnapped on Tuesday afternoon at about 3pm.
The rescue operation, which started shortly after Akinola was kidnapped, yielded results at about 8pm.
Akinola was rescued along with his daughter and driver, who were in his Sport Utility Vehicle at the time he was kidnapped.
However, the gunmen escaped with Akinola’s SUV.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Police Command, Prince Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the development.
Adejobi said the police team that carried out the rescue operation and the victims were on their way to the police headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
