Welcome to the Facebook and Twitter accounts of the Minister of Aviation, Ms Stella Oduah. In the wake of the alleged attack on her car on Friday, our correspondent visited the accounts to see if she has posted any information regarding the incident. But there is no such information there.
Oduah’s most recent tweet was posted on Monday, the day the incident was reported to the police. It read, “The new National Carrier has not be unveiled yet but will soon be unveiled and once this is done, its character and architecture will be known. We do not want to pre-empt the unveiling. Thank you.”
According to a report published in The Punch on Monday, it was alleged that three shots were fired at the car while the incident happened at about 10.30pm.
The said car is her Escalade with registration number FST 914 BL. She was not in the car at the time of the attack.
Meanwhile, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Altienne Daniel, who confirmed the incident, said that detectives who checked the vehicle retrieved a metallic object which was being subjected to ballistic test to ascertain whether it was a bullet or not.
Since the story over the N255m bulletproof cars said to have been bought for her by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Agency came to the open, Oduah, who is seen as one of the closest ministers to President Goodluck Jonathan, has come under fire from different quarters.
Although the heat that had greeted the scandal, which made headlines for some weeks, has gradually simmered, especially since the Federal Government has yet to take a definite stand against Oduah, the minister has once again become the butt of jokes and lampoons on Twitter and Facebook. That is the fruit of the ‘incident’, which many commentators are claiming is a fluke. Many Nigerians on Twitter and Facebook chorus that the alleged car attack is “a weak justification of the purchase of the bullet proof cars.”
Surprisingly, many Nigerians who are usually emotional about life-threatening events like the one claimed by the minister, have refused to honour her with sympathy. They are not tweeting support for her.
Rather, the likes of the son of the late Afrobeat legend, Seun Kuti, have begun an online protest against the minister in a series of tweets.
Seun has also been engaging and sensitising his Twitter followers while asking the embattled minister to simply step aside.
Some of his posts written in Pidgin English read, “Aunty Oduah, if dis govt no fit to tell u to go, we Naija youths wey get the system advise you to just go, take a leaf from Oga Kolade.
“Dem no fit sweep Aunty Oduah case under table like dat o, na our future she just waste like dat o.”
Another tweet read, “Abeg wetin happen to Aunty Oduah case o, abi govt think say we don forget ni? Please, Oga Jonathan tell us Naija youths the outcome.”
Also, another aggrieved Nigerian, Fairy Godsister, tweeted, “In all of this, I feel sorry for StellaOduah. After waiting for the football weekend to pass, this PDP/APC drama just had to take her shine!”
For Olusegun Dada, the story is totally unbelievable. He wrote, “The Stella Oduahassassination story has more holes in it than a runs girl’s hair-net.”
Omojuwa, on the other hand, tweeted, “Those who slept early missed the start of the new season of the Stella Oduah produced BMW series, Unknown Gunmen and all.”
Meanwhile, Nedu Naija joined the online commentary tweeting, “Gaping holes envelope theStella Oduah car attack story.”
Proffesor BookWorm added his voice to the debate, saying, “Someone should please tell Stella Oduah that the drama is not necessary.”
Another respondent, Lefishy, could not contain his anger in a tweet which went, “Stella Oduah actually looked at Nigerians and thought us dumb enough not to see through her plan.”
