A Sharia Court in Kano on Wednesday ruled that a 63-year-old man, Ubale Saidu, should be stoned to death.
Mr. Ubale, a farmer, was found guilty of raping a 10-year-old girl and infecting her with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, HIV.
Although the details of the trial are not fully available yet, the Kano State Commissioner for Justice, Maliki Kuliyi, confirmed the conviction to the Hausa service of the BBC on Wednesday.
He however said under the law the convict has one month to appeal the sentence.
