NIGERIA RANKED 139TH IN 2012 CORRUPTION PERCEPTION INDEX BY TRANSPARENCY INTERNATIONAL .... Food for thought!

Nigeria has been ranked 139th in the 2012 Corruption Perception Index of Transparency International (TI) released Wednesday.
 In 2011, Nigeria occupied number 143 on the index.
 TI said this year’s index featured 176 countries and territories compared to last year’s 183.
 “The Corruption Perceptions Index ranks countries and territories based on how corrupt their public sector is perceived to be. A country or territory’s score indicates the perceived level of public sector corruption on a scale of 0 - 100, where 0 means that a country is perceived as highly corrupt and 100 means it is perceived as very clean. A country's rank indicates its position relative to the other countries and territories included in the index,” TI said on its website.
 Nigeria was scored 27 points alongside Azerbaijan, Kenya, Nepal and Pakistan, who were also tied at the 139th spot.
 Amongst African countries featured, Botswana came tops at number 30 on the chart. Others are Cape Verde 39th, Mauritius 43rd, Rwanda 50th, Namibia 58th, South Africa 69th, Sao Tome and Principe 72nd and Liberia 75th amongst others.
