Yobe corps members begin orientation in Nasarawa ... Daily Trust

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has commenced the mandatory orientation of the corps members posted to Yobe State, in Keffi, Nasarawa State, ahead of their primary assignment to take place in their state of positing.

The Batch B corps members commenced orientation after the exercise was declared open by the Yobe State governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, who was represented by the state’s chairman, NYSC Governing Board, and Commissioner of Youth and Social Development, Aji Yerima Bularafa.

According to Yusufu Philibus, spokesman of the NYSC in Yobe, the ceremony featured swearing-in of the corps members by Yobe State Chief Judge, Justice Garba Musa Nabaruma who was represented by Justice Abubakar Ahmed Mohammed. “That was followed by signing of the Oath of allegiance by 6 Corps members who represented the nation’s 6 geopolitical zones on behalf of the entire Corps members on camp”, Philibus said.

Governor Gaidam told the corps members that the state appreciated their acceptance to serve in Yobe, saying “some of you may be skeptical about going to Yobe state to continue your service at the end of the orientation exercise due to fear of the unknown. But, I can assure you in my capacity as the Chief Security Officer of Yobe state that you should not entertain any fear at all, and do not hesitate to gladly collect your posting letters to any part of the state at the end of the Camp.

“By the grace of God, my office and all security operatives in the state have put all hands on deck in the last few months and peace and normalcy have returned to all the areas affected by crisis in state. People are now going about their legitimate activities in the state without any form of threat.

“We have equally resolved to use all mechanisms at our disposal to nip in the bud any attempt by any person or group of persons to do anything which is inimical to the peace restored. Besides the measures put in place to maintain peace among the generality of the inhabitants of the state, my administration has not relented its effort in giving special consideration to security of my Corps members. For quite some time now, I have directed security outfits in the state to constantly keep surveillance of Corps members’ lodges 24 hours per day to forestall any breach of the peace”, the governor added.
