A former Federal Commissioner for Information, Chief Edwin Clark, has former President Goodluck Jonathan and his predecessor in office, the late Umaru Yar’Adua lacked the courage and the political will to fight corruption.
The Ijaw leader, who said this in Abuja on Wednesday when a group, Think Nigeria First Initiative, paid him a courtesy visit at his Abuja residence, also announced that he had quit the Peoples Democratic Party..
Clark, who was a staunch supporter of former President Goodluck Jonathan, however, said he would not join the governing party, the All Progressives Congress.
The Ijaw leader equally hailed the anti-corruption crusade of President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said it was wrong for anyone to accuse the President of fighting a selective war in his drive to return sanity into the polity.
He said those who ruled the country before Buhari like the late President, Umaru Yar’Adua and Jonathan didn’t have the political will to fight corruption.
He specifically accused Yar’Adua of being a friend to jailed former Governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori.
Clark added, “Yar’Adua became a friend to Ibori, who is very corrupt; and because of this, he could not fight corruption.
“Jonathan didn’t have the political will-power to fight corruption. He’s a gentleman. Drivers of yesterday are living in palatial buildings now under his government.
Clark called on Nigerians not to distract Buhari from achieving his goal, just as he appealed to the President to remain focus in his desire to rid the country of corruption.
It was, however, not clear if Clark decided to quit the party because of the defeat suffered by Jonathan during the 2015 presidential election.Details later…
