THE
police in Lagos and Ogun States, on Friday night, discovered the bodies
of a 64-year-old retired customs officer, Angela Uzo, and her adopted
daughter, Obiagulum at a shallow grave in a building at Ajuwon area of
Ogun State
The
discovery of the dead bodies created serious tension as residents of
Ajuwon and its environs stormed the building after news went round that a
kidnappers’ den had been uncovered in the area.
Some
angry residents had, early Saturday, broken the fence of the building
and forced their way in, before they were dispersed by anti riot
policemen from Ajuwon police station, who were drafted to the scene.
Policemen
from the Special Anti Robbery Squad of Lagos State and their
counterparts from Ajuwon in Sango police area command, late on Friday
night stormed 9, Wadoye Street, off Pipeline, Ajuwon, where the remains
of the victims were buried.
Before
then, operatives of SARS had arrested the chief culprit, Alhaji
Olatunji Azeez, who murdered the retired customs officer and her adopted
child, after selling her properties worth over two hundred million
naira.
Sunday
Tribune gathered that trouble started for the deceased former customs
officer when she came in contact with Azeez, who introduced himself as
an Islamic spiritualist.
Azeez
confessed to the police that he lured the late Angela to part with the
documents of her landed properties in choice locations in Lagos State,
after lying to her that some members of her family wanted to kill her
over her properties.
The
suspect told the police that he sold the woman’s property at Ajah for
N180 million, the one at Omole for N75 million and the one at Oko Oba
for N120 million, without the consent of the owner.
Azeez,
in a bid to cover up the dastardly act, invited the deceased customs
officer and her adopted daughter for prayers at Sango, where he
kidnapped and killed them.
He
took the remains of the woman and the 12-year-old girl to a building at
Ajuwon, which he reportedly just acquired, and buried them in a shallow
grave.
Azeez also confessed to the police that he had to kill the young girl to completely erase traces of the murder to him.
Residents
of the area who spoke with Sunday Tribune under the condition of
anonymity, denied the fact that they were aware that such act was going
on in the building, with all of them saying “they always lock the
gate”.
Trouble
started for Azeez when the younger sister to the deceased former
customs officer reported her missing to the police at Oko Oba police
station, after leaving home for a prayer session at Sango Ota since May
in a Toyota Camry saloon car, marked LND 554 A2.
The
police were able to track the vehicle to a building in Alakuko area of
Lagos State, where two people were arrested and the arrested suspects
helped in the arrest of the mastermind of the murder at his Sango Ota,
Ogun State home.
Efforts
to get reach the Police Public Relations Officer of Lagos State Police
Command, Ngozi Braide, were futile as calls to her mobile lines were not
answered.
