The returned medical report of a drug test has confirmed that Nigerian gold medalist Chika Amalaha had cheated during the Commonwealth Games.
Her ‘A’ sample was found to contain amiloride and hydrochlorothiazide, which are both on World Anti Doping Agency's prohibited list as diuretics and masking agents.
Nigeria’s Kaduna born athlete won the gold medal Friday in the contest, alongside Dika Toua, who took the silver to secure Papua New Guinea’s first medal in Scotland. India’s Santoshi Matsa won the bronze medal at the event.
Amalaha is the first athlete to fail a drug test at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. The other two athletes to do so, both of Welsh origin, were banned before the commencement of the competition.
With this confirmation, the procedure is that the organizers will award Amalaha's Gold medal to silver medalist Dika Toua, of Papua New Guinea, thus, reducing Nigeria's Gold tally to seven at the Games.
