The Ondo State chapter of the Buhari Campaign Organisation, BCO, on Friday, inaugurated the State Advisory Committee in Akure, the state capital.
Top party chieftains and stakeholders of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in the state were in attendance.
Speaking at the formation of the campaign committee, the state coordinator of BCO, Engr. Ifeoluwa Oyedele, noted that the occasion was the first of its kind in the state due to its success at bringing together people of divergent background for a common political goal and interest, except those who hold executive positions in the party that were exempted in adherence to the party’s rules and regulation.
He reiterated the purpose of the political gathering and stated that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the government of President Goodluck Jonathan have disappointed all Nigerians.
He claimed that “Nigerians within a certain age bracket readily agree that the Nigeria we see today is not the country of our dream. It is tragic that a country birthed with great human and natural potentials has today been plunged into the abyss of hopelessness. The situation today is even grimmer.”
Oyedele, the man who, together with General Buhari, wept copiously in the run up to the 2011 presidential election, lamented that the life expectancy of every Nigerian is below the age of 48 years if such individual was lucky to escape the alarming rate of child mortality.
He further stated that the high level of insecurity in the country, poor and falling standard of education, unemployment, erratic power supply and ubiquitous moribund infrastructures are due largely to bad leadership the nation has continued to suffer.
He assured the people that the coming together of the opposition parties across the country to wrestle the mantle of leadership from the PDP and salvage the nation from its political decadence will go a long way at redeeming the image of the country, revamp its dwindling economy, restore peace and stability and foster the unity of the nation.
He urged the electorates to choose Muhammed Buhari as the next president.
“While the APC has an array of qualified members who are eminently qualified to lead this nation, it is common knowledge that General Mohammadu Buhari (GCFR) possesses all the exemplary qualities in terms of competence, experience, integrity, discipline and humility. Above all, it is the considered opinion of millions that only the General enjoys a broader appeal amongst the electorates to defeat the candidate of the PDP in a free and fair election,” he added.
Oyedele, a one-time Board of Trustees (BoT) member of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and member of the merger committee that negotiated the birth of APC in 2013, enumerated the patriotic and selfless services which Buhari has rendered to Nigeria.
He formally announced the political structure and machinery of the organisation and how it aims to organise the masses across the 3 senatorial districts, 18 local councils and 203 wards that make up the state for effective and superlative grass-root mobilisation and sensitisation.
The coordinator also urged party members and stakeholders to employ their wealth of experience in order to ensure the success of Buhari at the presidential poll while expressing his gratitude to those who have been supporting the committee and the APC in cash and in kind.
“For us in Ondo in Ondo state, the APC, through its performance at the coming presidential election, must send a strong signal that we are the choice of the people to take over from an inept and rudderless government that has been foisted upon the state and nation at large for the past 15 years,” he said.
Some members of the 38-man advisory council include: Mr. Ife Oyedele (State Coordinator), Mrs. Jumoke Anifowoshe, Comrade Sola Iji, Prince Olu Adegboro, Chief Tayo Alasoadura, Dr. Paul Akintelure, Mr. Wale Akinterinwa, Dr. Bayo Ademodi, Mrs. F.O.
