Aliyu, who stated this while addressing the National Union of Local Government Employees yesterday in Minna, the state capital, said a development “where if somebody speaks his mind he is blackmailed of eyeing the presidency is not good for the country”.
Aliyu added that the entire scenario was not healthy for the nation’s democracy, saying that the Nigeria Governors’ Forum had slated a meeting for yesterday evening to thrash out some of the salient issues in the interest of the nation. “We will go. We have become intolerant and this is not healthy for our democracy,” he said.
Lamenting the increasing use of blackmail in the politics of the country, Aliyu said, “When you speak, you are accused of wanting to become the president.”
The PDP Governors’ Forum is seen by many analysts as the Presidency’s way of checkmating the powerful influence of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum as well as checkmate the rumoured presidential ambition of some of its members whom are seen as possible threats to President Goodluck Jonathan’s second term ambition.
