Former Petroleum Minister and Elder statesman, Mr Shettima Ali Monguno kidnapped Monday afternoon regained his freedom, following the payment of N50 million ransom.
The gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect reportedly collected a N50 million ransom before releasing the octogenarian who was kidnapped Friday afternoon in Maiduguri after the Friday prayer.
The gunmen had threatened not to release the Chairman of Borno Elders Forum who had been in the forefront of the calls for the withdrawal of soldiers from the streets of Maiduguri until all the members of the sect detained by the government are released.
The collection of ransom before the release the octogenarian has added another development to the agitation of the Boko Haram whose claims centered on the Islamization of the country when they took arms against the nation.
