PLATEAU ERUPTS AGAIN : Plateau unrest: 33 killed in renewed clashes, including students writing NECO ... DailyPost


The relative peace being enjoyed in Plateau State was punctured in the early hours of Thursday, as 33 persons were killed in a renewed violence between the Fulani and indigenous Taroh communities of Langtang South Local Government Area of the State.
Dailypost has gathered that, among the dead were students sitting for this year’s ongoing National Examination Council.
Rev. Nandip Miri, who is a local pastor of the Church of Christ of all Nations, told Dailypost via mobile phone that, he lost his father and brother in the attack.
Investigation by Dailypost reveals that a heavy battle has been ongoing in the restive Plateau Southern Senatorial District since the past 48 hours,particularly in Langtang South. The battle according to sources was against some Fulani herdsmen.
Our Correspondent gathered that 24 people have been killed in Magama, while nine others were also killed in Bolgang.
An eye witness told Dailypost that many of the areas have been deserted as the attackers pursued fleeing residents on motorcycles while running for dear lives.
The Pastor, who is the Chairman of the Provisional Church Council of COCIN, said the number of casualties may be higher as corpses of those killed while fleeing still litter across the roads and in the bushes.
“We cannot know the actual number of people who lost their lives as we are still picking dead bodies from the bushes. The attackers followed the victims on motorcycles and were killing them mercilessly as they tried to escape. So many dead bodies have been recovered from the bush and more may still be found .
Confirming the incident, the Management Committee Chairman of the Council, Mr. Nanman Darko, said thirty-two people were killed in the three villages that were invaded by the Fulani insurgents.
He gave the breakdown as follows; Magama; twenty-three people, Bolgang ;seven and two people were killed between Magama and Karkishi, adding that over 100 houses were also razed down by the rampaging Fulani attackers.
Darko said, he has informed the Special Task Force, STF responsible for the maintenance of peace in the State and they have moved their men into the area to prevent further destruction of lives and property.
The Council Chairman called on residents of the aforementioned villages to watch out for the insurgents, while reporting all suspicious movements to the law enforcement agencies.
Senator representing the zone, Victor Lar, called for restraint and advised the people to remain calm.
The State Police Commissioner, Mr. Chris Olakpe, told our correspondent that he was yet to get details of the attacks.
