MORE SUCCESSES IN OUR WAR AGAINST TERROR AS THAT DECEITFUL CEASE-FIRE REVERBERATES THROUGH THE LAND : Shocker in Borno: Army uncovers Boko Haram bunkers, shallow graves ... HOW DID IT COME TO THIS?
The Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation Restore Order II in Borno yesterday said it uncovered Boko Haram mass grave, tunnels and bunkers in Maiduguri, the epicenter of the insurgency.
Spokesman of the JTF, Leutenant Colonel Sagir Musa, who took journalists to the site of the shallow graves, tunnels and bunkers at Bulabulin Nganaram, said some residents killed by the insurgents and some of the Boko Haram members that died in gun battles with security men were buried in the graves.
Some decomposing corpses and human bones were seen around some of the shallow graves in the open field. There was also a big bunker where the JTF said it discovered undisclosed number of weapons.
The bunker, according to JTF was dug behind a two-bedroom apartment, making residents to believe it was a sewage pit. There were aso tuunels believed to have served as route for the movement of the insurgents from their hideouts to targetted areas for attacks.
Bulabulin Nganaram in Maiduguri has been a Boko Haram flash point since the insurgency heightened. It is believed to be the major stronghold of the insurgents.
Meanwhile, the JTF in a statement signed by its spokesman, Lt. Col. Musa said a Boko Haram commander (main Amir) of Bulabulin Nganaram who was on the wanted list of the task force with N10 million rewards had been killed.
“The Joint Task Force (JTF) between July 3 and 8 dislodged Boko Haram terrorists from their main enclave in Bulabulin Nganaram, Aljajeri and Faluja areas of Maiduguri metropolis.
During the encounter, some terrorists were killed in the firefight including the main Amir of Bulabulin Nganaram (who was on the wanted list of the JTF with a N10 million bounty). He was responsible for the killing of a teacher and three students of Sanda Karami Secondary School, Ruwan Zafi Maiduguri. Many abducted women, girls and children were rescued and handed over to their families by the Task Force.
“During the search of the areas, many arms and ammunition of various calibre buried in houses and cemeteries were recovered. Decomposing corpses of those killed by the terrorists were also found in soak-away and mass graves of terrorists killed and taken away by them. Troops also discovered vast network mouse-holes linking compounds and underground tunnels as well as bunkers under houses. Troops are still searching the area for more weapons, ammunition and mass graves.
The JTF uses this opportunity to appeal to members of the public for support and more information on terrorists’ activities,” Musa said.
