WHEN AN ACCIDENT IS AN ACT OF GOD : Plane crash: I ’ve surrendered to God’s will ... Chief Olu Falae
Former Minister of Finance, Chief Olu Falae, who lost his son in last Thursday’s plane crash, said yesterday that he had surrendered to the will of God. His late son, Deji, was the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Ondo State before the incident occurred. Chief Falae spoke yesterday when leaders of Afenifere paid him a condolence visit at his residence in Akure, the Ondo State capital. He said the family takes solace in the fact that Deji lived a purposeful life. The former minister said: “The Holy Spirit has ministered to us and we have been comforted by different testimonies that preceded the incident.”
Falae, however, said the late Deji saw his appointment as a commissioner as a service to humanity, saying his salary at his former place of work was more than what he earned as a commissioner He said: “The late Deji was humble, honest, transparent and exhibited integrity. He did not build a house of his own, but he helped most of his supporters to build their own houses.” While commiserating with the former minister, the leader of the group, Chief Lanihun Ajayi, urged him to take solace in the fact that “God giveth and taketh” Olanihun, who said the group came to condole with the family and the people of Ondo State over Deji’s death, described the incident as shocking.
He said: “Deji is one of us and we look forward to him as one of the Yoruba future leader, but God knows best “We know and understand the impact and the pains his death has caused the family, but we will urge you to remain strong in the service to God and humanity” Members of the group in attendance in Falae’s house include Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Jimi Agbaje,Funsho Alayande, Yinka Odumakin, Sehinde Arogbofa, Pekun Awobona, Lanre Omisore, Jide Akinbiyi and many others. A member of the House of Representatives representing Ado/Irepodun Federal Consistency of Ekiti State, Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele, also visited Chief Falae’s home to condole with the family.
Bamidele, who described Deji as an aspiring politician with bright future, prayed to God to give the family the fortitude to bear the loss. Also the Ijaw Arogbo community in the Ese Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State and traditional rulers from Okitipupa Local Government Area also paid a condolence visit to Falae. Deji led the government’s delegation to accompany the body of the former Ondo State Governor Olusegun Agagu from Lagos to Akure for the final burial when the incident occurred.
