Overdose: PC Gail Crocker was found dead in the boot of her car

A policewoman killed herself after she mistakenly texted her husband about a night out with her lover.
PC Gail Crocker, 46, sent her husband Peter a message which said: “Thank you for a wonderful evening, only wish we could do this more often,” an inquest heard.
He was on a business trip to London when he received the text, which was supposed to go to a male police colleague she had spent the evening with.
Mr Crocker, who had been with blonde Gail for more than 30 years, returned to the family home in St Stephen, Cornwall, the next day.

In a statement to the Truro inquest, he said: “She was in a flood of tears saying she was sorry. She told me it was a one off and had never done it before.”
But the following day the couple argued before he left the house. He said: “She went on and on. My work phone rang. I was so angry I slammed it into the ground.”
He went to buy another phone but when he returned, Gail had left with her white Audi TT.
He rang Bodmin police station, where she was due for a shift, but her sergeant told him she had called in sick.

The next day, family friends out walking their dog at nearby Lanjeth saw the Audi in a car park and called Mr Crocker.
He found Gail’s body in the boot next to suicide notes written to him and daughters Chloe, 22 and Gemma, 25.
She had overdosed on sleeping pills and painkillers, said a pathologist.
