SECURITY TIPS FOR SOCCER VIEWING CENTRES AS WORLD CUP STARTS IN JUNE.......
FOR CUSTOMERS OF VIEWING CENTRES
1. Avoid crowded viewing centres if you can
2. Watch at home if you have the means at home
3. Alternatively you can follow live matchcast via internet on bbcsports or yahoosports.
IF YOU MUST GO TO VIEWING CENTRE
1. Develop situational awareness by noting any non regular customers in your local bar or viewing centre
2. Demand additional security measures from your local viewing centre manager or local bartender (see recommended security measures for viewing centre owners below)
3. Call attention to any thing unusual (vehicle, person, movement) but no Jungle Justice please.
4. Be sure to note exits nearest to you and strong hiding places nearest to you, stay away from glass windows
FOR SOCCER VIEWING CENTRE OWNERS / BAR TENDERS
1. Increase vigilance and adopt additional security measures such as a Me-Guard stationed outside the viewing centre overlooking approaches and car parks.(Look for a Meguard who is not a soccer fanatic himself and whod concentrate on look out)
2. Have cars park some distance away from the main viewing centre to ensure stand-off distance
3. Make sure customers know exits available and that exits are kept clear
5. Use portable metal detectors wand type to screen customers
6. As the manager try and be familiar with your regular customers so as to immediately note any newcomer
7. Talk to your local DPO to see the possibility of having a policeman stationed to at least watch approaches and incoming or suspicious vehicles.
8. Encourage customers to report anything/anyone suspicious.
9. Ensure that viewing centres are locked and secured at all times between and after matches.
10. Tell customers not to bring bags to viewing centre
11. Before match starts announce to all customers proedure to be adopted in case there is any emergency or if any IED is discovered ,
FOR EMERGENCY SERVICES
If unfortunately despite measures something happens, Emergency Services responding are to note the new BH method of primary and secondary explosions as seen in Jos. Give some time like 3 minutes after explosion to move in, and move in cautiously noting any suspicious onlooker or another vehicle parked nearby.
NB. FROM STATISTICS THE THREAT IS EITHER:
A VBIED vehicle borne improvised explosive device (so watch out for suspicious moving or parked vehicles, vehicles with suspicious number plates, or rear seats removed, or with wires trailing from ignition /steering wheel to under vehicle, vehicles with the rear side looking heavily weighed down.
PBIED -Person borne improvised explosive device (Look out for a person wearing bulky and heavy upper-body clothes especially during hot season, use hand patting (back side, sides and between the legs and any bag rucksack) )or wand type metal detectors) .
