The Federal Government on Monday dissociated itself from a statement by Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, wherein he stated that it would not negotiate with Boko Haram, on the abduction of the schoolgirls of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok in Borno State.
Moro was quoted by the French news agency, AFP, as saying that the Federal Government would not negotiate with Boko Haram for the freedom of the girls.
His reaction was in response to the latest video by the leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, that the sect would only free the girls if the Federal Government released its members in different detention centres across the country.
Rather, Omeri said the government was still studying the video and would react appropriately.
The statement, released by the National Information Centre, reads in full: “The Federal Government has seen the online video reportedly issued by the Jama’atu ahlul sunnah lidda’awati wal jihad (Boko Haram Sect) of the abducted Nigerian School girls who Have been in captivity since 15 April, 2014
“Government is reviewing the content of the video and the accompanying statement issued by the sect.
“Government will continue to explore all options for the release and safe return of our girls back to their homes.
“An earlier report by a section of the media purported to have been issued by Government is totally false.”
