Royal prince of the Kalabari Kingdom, Rivers State, Tonye Princewill has declared his intention to run for the 2015 governorship election in Rivers State.
The politician-cum-businessman who has interest in both upstream and downstream oil and gas, information technology and aviation services made this known to his people at a recent function held in Port Hacourt, Rivers State capital.
Princewill, during an interactive section monitored by DailyPost with teeming followers, tagged #AskPrincewill on a popular social media on Saturday morning said, if given the mantle of leadership, he would put up the controversial private jet owned by the incumbent for sale.
Hear him, “I have never believed in 100 days, rather on the first day in office I will put the State plane up for sale.”
Asked what he will do to improve the economy of the state, the UK returnee told his over 3000 followers that, “I would pay attention to business a whole lot more, reduce multiple taxation, partner with business on employment and reduce red tape.”
“Multiple taxation is one of our biggest vices and I will eliminate if given the opportunity, he assured.”
Responding on what he has about 2015 and what he wants in Rivers State, he said, “2015 will take care of itself. I am not ruling anything in or out”, said Princewill.
On what the people of the state should expect from his administration, the royal prince said, “I want to see good roads, hospitals, schools, security etc. I want to see Rivers State move forward and the money for the state to work for the state”. He explained that the goals and aims of what Princewill’s Political Associates intend to achieve is to create political consciousness in the system, make members know politics beyond the superficial and be people-oriented as well as build army of people who will question, criticize constructively the policies and programmes of the government of the day.
Born a prince of the renowned Amachree dynasty in the Kalabari kingdom of Rivers State and trained as an aristocrat, Princewill stormed the politics of Nigeria in 2007, thus clinching the AC ticket.
He was in September 2008 appointed into the 45 man Presidential Technical Committee on the Niger Delta with the mandate to collate and review all past reports on the Niger Delta, starting from the 1958 Willinks Report, appraise their recommendations and make other proposals that will help the Federal Government to achieve sustainable development, peace, human and environmental security in the Niger Delta Region.
