A NEW DIMENSION : 25-year-old kidnaps, rapes 53-year-old woman, demands N10m Ransom

THE act of kidnapping in Delta State took a different dimension on Thursday with the arrest of two kidnap suspects who abducted a 53-year-old woman and raped her in a hotel before demanding a ransom of N10 million  from their victim.
The two suspects were Mr Tadafe Egwolo (25) and Mr Kelvin Ovwie (25) from Effurun, Delta State.
They were paraded before journalists at the headquarters of the 3rd Battalion Nigerian Army, Effurun, on Saturday.
The grandmother of two (names withheld) was abducted at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) Roundabout on Tuesday by the young men, who dragged her to Room 602 of Casa De Perdro Hotel located at Effurun, where she was allegedly raped by Egwolo while snapshots of the act were taken by Ovwie.
The young men, who claimed to be dredgers at the Sand Beach at Ugbangwe in Warri, admitted before journalists that they abused the woman sexually, took the snapshots of the act, but denied being kidnappers.
The aim of the snapshots being taken during the act, according the woman who is a senior staff in PTI, was to blackmail her if she refused to pay the ransom demanded from her.
She said she reported the case to the troops and was asked to play along, and as the two boys came for the money at PTI Junction on Thursday, they were rounded up by troops of Sector 1, Operation Pulo Shield, who laid ambush for them.
According to the Commanding Officer of 3rd Battalion Nigerian Army, Effurun, Lt Col. Ifeanyi Out, who briefed the press, the suspects came to PTI Junction for the ransom in a Lexus car (said to worth about N4.5 million) with registration number Delta EFR 02AA which belongs to Egwolo.
But Egwolo, during the parade, denied kidnapping the woman, insisting that she was his girlfriend for no less than a year and months, adding that things went awry between them when the woman refused to fulfill her own part of the bargain of N150, 000 per month as payment for Egwolo’s services.
