IN MY FATHER'S HOUSE : Redeemed Church elder charged with assaulting pastor, one other during Sunday service


The 81-year-old suspect was granted bail.

An elder of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, who allegedly assaulted a pastor and another elder of the church, was on Tuesday charged before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The 81-year-old man, Adebowale Osiboke, who resides at the Redeemed Church Headquarters, Ebute Meta, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of assaulting Pastor Ayinde Omolade, 68 and Elder Israel Sadiku, 64.
The prosecutor, Etim Nkankuk, told the court that the offence was committed on March 10 at about 10 a.m. at the church’s headquarters at Nos. 1-9, Redemption Way, Ebute Meta, Lagos.
Mr. Nkankuk, an Assistant Superintendent of Police said that an allegation of misappropriation of church funds led to incident.
According to the prosecutor, the accused had confronted the two complainants over the allegation which led to a row.
He said that Mr. Osiboke consequently held the suits of the two complainants and poured invective on them during the Sunday service.
The prosecutor said that the offences committed contravened Section 170 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The Chief Magistrate, Y.O Aje-Afunwa, granted the accused bail in the sum of N10, 000 with a surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case till May 6 for further hearing.
