Twenty-one African countries including Zimbabwe, Niger, Benin Republic and Djibouti are more prosperous than Nigeria, the 2014 Legatum Prosperity Index, has said.
According to the report released recently by the Legatum Institute, the index of 142 countries defines “prosperity as a combination of wealth and wellbeing.”
The report ranks Nigeria 125th among the 142 countries placing countries like Zimbabwe as 123rd, Niger as 114th, Benin as 108th and Djibouti as 119th.
Also, South Africa ranks as 83rd, Namibia as 88th, Sudan as 130th, Congo as 122nd, and Cote d’Ivoire as 121st.
The report places Norway as first on the index with Switzerland and New Zealand trailing at second and third positions respectively. The United States and United Kingdom fall behind them with 10th and 13th positions respectively.
“This year, the 2014 Legatum Prosperity Index includes six consecutive years of comparable data and can offer a unique insight into how prosperity is forming and changing across the world,” the body said.
