The Bayelsa State chapter of President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign group, the Transformation Ambassador of Nigeria, on Thursday described as historic the sole candidacy of Jonathan in the Peoples Democratic Party.
TAN said the emergence of the President as the PDP consensus candidate for the 2015 poll was commendable.
Bayelsa State Coordinator of the group, Mr. Werinipre Seibarugu, hailed the leadership of the PDP for making Jonathan the first incumbent to have been returned unopposed.
Jonathan, from Bayelsa State, was on Wednesday endorsed as the 2015 presidential candidate of the ruling party thus setting the stage for a showdown between himself and a former military Head of State, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), who defeated four others to emerge the candidate of the opposition All Progressives Congress on Thursday.
The Bayelsa TAN boss said the decision of the various organs of the PDP, including the National Working Committee, Board of Trustees, National Executive Committee and the PDP Governors’ Forum, to adopt Jonathan as consensus candidate was a welcome development.
Seibarugu, in a statement issued in Yenagoa on Thursday by the state Director of Media and Publicity, Chief Nathan Egba, said the sustained sensitisation and mobilisation of over 17million signatures by TAN across the six geo-political zones was commendable.
He said, “We commend the various party machinery of the PDP for championing the emergence of President Goodluck Jonathan as a consensus candidate.
“We commend the national leadership of the TAN for its sensitisation and mobilisation of the over 17 million signatures, which obviously contributed in ensuring that the President seeks re-election.”
