Nigerian troops on Wednesday raided several hideouts and escape routes of members of the Boko Haram sect, as it continues battling to recapture the whole of Nigeria’s northeast.
Troops in Konduga, Borno State, Wednesday, destroyed a vehicle laden with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) meant for suicide bombing operation by the terrorists, reports Vanguard, citing a source.
“This is the latest incident in the series of recent attempts being made by terrorists to make incursions into the town and other surrounding communities,” the Vanguard source said.
An undisclosed number of terrorists were also said to have been killed. No personnel of the army or any civilian was affected in the operation, the source noted.
The Nigerian military is recording more success in its fight against Boko Haram, as confirmed by online news portal Premium Times, whose journalist traveled through some insurgency-hit areas. The reporter said most of the towns earlier occupied by the sect had been retaken with the assistance of local vigilantes, known as Civilian-JTF.
