Chairmanship: PDP BoT Meeting Ends In Stalemate As Obasanjo Shuns Gathering (PHOTOS)

The 42^nd meeting of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) where a Chairman for the party’s BoT was scheduled to emerge ended Tuesday night without electing a replacement for former President Olusegun Obasanjo who held the position until his shocking resignation several months ago.

The meeting was held inside the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa with the former President curiously absent.

Tuesday night’s meeting was the second unsuccessful attempt to elect a new Chairman for the BoT with several interests in the party refusing to agree on a consensus candidate.

THEWILL gathered that another meeting has been slated to hold in 3 weeks while a committee was set up to look at how to reduce the membership of the BoT.

Twelve members of the Board of Trustees in the race for the Chairman are Dr Alex Ekwueme, Dr Ken Nnamani, Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo, Dr Ahmadu Ali, Chief Tony Anenih, Chief Emmanuel Iwuayanwu, Chief Don Etiebet, Senator Bode Olayinka, Chief Yekeen Adeojo, Senator Onyeabor Obi, Chief Harry Akande and Chief Shuaibu Oyedo. 

THEWILL gathered that 8 candidates were barred from the race because they are not members of the PDP’s BOT. 

Part 9, Section 32, Subsection 1 of the PDP Constitution states that only members of the Board of Trustees can be elected Chairman and Secretary.

The meeting which started at about 8.30pm had president Goodluck Jonathan, Vice President Namadi Sambo, Senate President David Mark, House Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the President’s Chief of Staff, Mr. Mike Ogiadomhe, embattled National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur and National Secretary, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola.

Other are former Vice president Alex Ekweme, Mrs. Josephine Anenih, Governor Ibrahim Shema, Ambassador Hassan Adamu, Governor Ibrahim Shema (Katsina), Governor Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Senator Danjuma Goje, Alhaji Abdulkadir Kure, General Muhammadu Magoro (rtd), Professor Jerry Gana, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, Chief Francis Arthur Nzeribe, Hajiya Inna Ciroma, Senator Adolphus Wabara, Mrs. Joy Emordi, Chief Chris Uba, Chief Ojo Maduekwe, Alhaji Bello Haliru Mohammed, Senator Adolphus Wabara, Senator Barnabas Gemade, Senator Ken Nnamani, Senator Ahmadu Ali, Senator Ibrahim Mantu, Mr. Vincent Ogbulafor, Mr. Tony Anenih, Mrs. Patricia Etteh, Ambassador Hassan Adamu, Chief Jim Nwobodo, Mr. Obong Victor Attah, Chief Richard Akinjide, Chief Olabode George, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Senator Walid Jibrin, Alhaji Musa Babayo, Dr Dalhatu Sarki Tafida, Mrs. Kema Chikwe, Chief Bode Olajumoke, General David Jemibewon (rtd), Chief Don Etiebet and Chief Ebenezer Babatope amongst several others.
