Kogi state governor Idris Wada has left hospital where he was being
treated after fracturing his femur in a road crash last week.
He left on Tuesday morning amidst tight security after five days
of treatment that included a surgery to repair a broken thigh bone.
Dr
Felix Ogedengbe, chief medical director at Cedar Crest, where Wada has
been hospitalised since the crash, said the governor could recuperate at
home while his thigh heals.
Ogedengbe, also Wada's doctor, said the hospital only administered treatment to enable Wada regain mobility.
He added the fracture could take up to six months to heal.
First photographs of the governor in hospital emerged Monday after four days when President Goodluck Jonathan visited him.
Several ministers and fellow governors have also paid him sympathy visits during his hospitalisation.
Gov
Wada and his medical team have insisted he will not need further
treatment to necessitate a trip abroad and the Nigerian Medical
Association has commended his decision to take treatment in the country.
The
crash occurred on a highway some 12 km outside Kogi state capital
Lokoja as the convoy headed back from Anyingba where the governor had
attended a function.
Initial reports said only the governor's car was involved.
Journalists
travelling on the convoy said the entourage was hurrying to get back to
Lokoja in time for Jumu'at prayers at 2PM Friday.
Wada was also billed to attend a reception in honour of former Kogi state governor Ibrahim Idris, sources have said.
Jubril
Isah, who drove the governor's car in the crash, is still in hospital
in Lokoja since his injury but is said to be responding to treatment and
is stable.
The third occupant of the car, the governor's ADC Idris
Mohammed, died instantly in the crash and has been interred in Zaria
since Saturday.
