A
five-man gang of armed robbers has raided a new generation church(name
withheld) in Boji-Boji Owa, Ika North East of Delta State and snatched
the church’s offering and abducted the security guard, leaving one
person dead.
An
eye witness said the robbers shot sporadically into the air to pave way
for their operation in the church at about 10:30am during prayer
session and ordered the worshippers to face the ground while their
operation lasted.
Reports
said that the gunmen ransacked everywhere in the church where some
prominent politicians worship for close to an hour before they allegedly
vented their anger on the pastor whose failure to make more money
available earned him a punishment of “frog jumps”.
Sources
revealed that the hoodlums came in a black jeep with no plate number
and were armed with AK 47s in a commando style to scare passersby.
However,
the pastor in charge of the church who did not want his name in print,
disclosed that the offering box contained an estimated sum of
N0.5million being offering and thanksgiving by some highly placed
personalities and appealed to the gang to release the security guard.
Police
spokesman in the state, ASP Famous Ajieh, confirmed the incident and
revealed that the whereabouts of the security guard was yet to be
established. He said that concerted efforts to rescue the victim were
ongoing, adding that efforts to also arrest the hoodlums have been put
in place especially in strategic areas.
