IN THE THROES OF A PDP REBIRTH : OBASANJO, MARK, TAMBUWAL, 7 GOVS SHUN PDP DINNER

Absentees on the wrong path – Presidency
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Senate President David Mark, House of Representatives Speaker Aminu Tambuwal and all the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ‘rebel’ governors yesterday shunned the post-convention dinner held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
In attendance were the PDP Board of Trustees Chairman Tony Anenih, National Chairman Bamanga Tukur and his predecessors Ahmadu Ali, Barnabas Gemade, Vincent Ogbulafor, Okwesilieze Nwodo and Bello Haliru Mohammed.
Sixteen governors in attendance were those of Enugu, Abia, Katsina, Akwa Ibom,  Gombe, Ebonyi, Kogi, Benue, Kebbi, Cross River, Delta, Kaduna, Plateau, Bayelsa, Bauchi and Taraba (acting governor).
The absentee governors were Sule Lamido (Jigawa State), Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Muazu Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (Kano) and Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto).
The dinner started at 8:30pm when President Goodluck Jonathan arrived the venue, along with Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo, Secretary to the Government of the Federation Anyim Pius Anyim, and other party leaders.
Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Barrister Ahmed Gulak, described the crisis in the PDP as unexpected in such as large family.
Gulak said the 16 governors in attendance had demonstrated their loyalty and support to Jonathan, while those who were absent were on the wrong path.
He urged the absentee governors to retrace their steps and return to “the right path.”
He said: “Loyalty and support are not by mouth, but by actions. 90 percent of Nigerians are with the president and the PDP. We have many governors of the PDP here. Nobody is left out.”
“Those who are not here are clearly on the wrong path. They’d better retrace their steps and come back to follow the right path. God has packaged Nigeria and put it under Jonathan’s leadership. God does not make any mistake,” he added.
Also in attendance were former Senate President Ken Nnamani, Professor Jerry Gana, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Emeka Ihedioha and Senate Leader Victor Ndoma-Egba, among others.
The dinner was still on by 11pm.
