OJUJU CALABAR : Masquerades Kill Ex-police Chief In Akwa Ibom .... LeadershipNews

Violence erupted yesterday in Obioakpa Village, Oruk Anam local government area of Akwa Ibom State, following the gruesome murder of one Mr Attah Johnson Udom by masquerades, popularly referred to as ekpo.
Udom, a retired chief superintendent of police (CSP), was killed in the early hours of yesterday on his way to church for early morning prayers.
LEADERSHIP FRIDAY understands that the late police chief had been working as an undercover informant for the police, in orde4r to reveal the identity of those behind the notorious activities of masquerades around the area.
“The man  became the target of the masked men, because he had been working with the police to track those behind the dangerous activities of masquerades in the area,” a source said, adding that Udom died after several machete cuts were inflicted on him by the fleeing masked men.
Masquerade parades in the community have long been banned, as a result of the many unlawful deeds perpetrated by the masquerades.
The Akwa Ibom State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Etim Dickson, confirmed the incident and promised that investigation was on to apprehend the suspects.
