No fewer than 16 persons were killed at different areas in Taraba and Kaduna states over the outcome of the governorship and state House of Assembly Polls on April 11.
In Taraba State, crisis ocurred yesterday during a fight between supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The crisis started when the INEC returning officer in the state, Prof Kyari Muhammed yesterday declared the Saturday’s governorship election in the state inconclusive.
An eyewitness who spoke to LEADERSHIP said that eight persons were killed at Ardo Kola LGA of the state during a fight between PDP and APC supporters.
“When the people of Ardo-Kola heard that the INEC returning officer declared the election inconclusive, the supporters of Ishaku Darius of PDP were jubilating when the APC supporters launched an attacked on them,” he said.
Our Correspondent further gathered that a brother of the current speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Dr Mark Bakko Useni was also said to have been killed by an unknown gunmen in Kashimbilla Village in Takum LGA of the state.
LEADERSHIP also learnt that one person was killed in Sardauna LGA area of the state when supporters of both political parties were engaged in a fight.
When contacted, the Taraba State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Joseph Kwaji who confirmed the incident told LEADERSHIP that it was only three persons that were killed during a fight between the supports of the PDP and the APC.
Meanwhile, what was supposed to be a celebration of victory following the Saturday’s governorship and Houses of Assembly elections in Kaduna State, turned bloody as jubilant youths attacked residence of some prominent persons, killing at least six persons.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the youths in Saminaka, a community bordering Kaduna and Plateau states, who had started the celebration, attacked the house of the district head of Saminnaka for voting a different political party during the elections.
They destroyed houses of prominent persons and places of worship as well as set ablaze a car belonging to a cleric and inflicted injuries on residents.
Some miscreants were said to have incited the violence, which led to the imposition of a 24-hour curfew and the deployment of police and soldiers to the local government.
Kaduna State governor-elect, Malam Nasir el-Rufai yesterday condemned the violence that erupted on Monday and Tuesday in Saminaka, headquarters of Lere local government area.
