Since the end of March, after King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu of Zulu made a provocative statement about foreigners being a threat to South Africans, more than 300 barbaric attacks (some foreigners were inhumanly burnt alive) against foreigners have been recorded. Around 10:00 am yesterday, a group of South African students killed 5 Congolese students, 10 Nigerians, 5 Gabonese and 10 Somalis in Johannesburg.
Although many South Africans have accused foreigners of “stealing” their jobs, the recent massive xenophobic attacks started after the King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu’s inflammable speech.
Interestingly, most of the leaders of the new South Africa (including Pres. Zuma himself) were once refugees or foreigners in other countries during the liberation / apartheid era; yet they cannot strongly condemn and stop this barbarism. Sadly enough, a majority of the so called foreigners in South Africa are from the countries that fought and sacrificed their soldiers for South African independence, yet they are being butchered by the same South Africans they helped liberate, and no one seems to care.
How can the government let this happen? What sort of human beings are we?

One might be tempted to ask where Julius Malema, the firebrand leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters party, who has always presented himself as the champion of the plight of the poor and oppressed is.
” South Africans will kick down a statue of a dead white man, but won’t even attempt to slap a live one. Yet they can stone to death a black man simply because he’s a foreigner.”- President Robert Mugabe condemned harshly.
African leaders should stand up to condemn this irresponsible behaviour. This must not happen in this century.
The police has advised foreigners to avoid using public transport specially train and taxi.

Is the government of Zuma doing enough to stop these senseless barbarism? Are the South African law enforcement agents willing and ready to end these killings? Must this be allowed to continue?
