A Chief Magistrate Court in Lokoja has ordered a 27-year-old man, identified as Abdulmalik Aliyu to be remanded in Federal Prisons, Koton-Karfe for allegedly killing his six-year-old son, Sadiq Abdulmalik in cold blood.
The Chief Magistrate of the court, Alhassan Husaini, ordered that the 27 year old aluminium fabricator be remanded in prison in his ruling upon the arraignment of the accused, charged with culpable homicide; contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code law.
According to Vanguard, the Police First Information Report, FIR, was read by the prosecuting police officer, C.S. Ayabatu. Ayabatu said the incident occurred on March 9, 2015 and was reported by one Sunday Akande, (a neighbour to the accused) at the Police ‘B’ Division Station, Lokoja. The Prosecutor explained to the court that the accused had told his Mariatu Akande on the fateful day, that he was taking the deceased back to his grandmother in Isanlu, headquarters of Yagba East Local Government Area of the state. Ayabatu said, “Aliyu had claimed that he had a premonition that something was wrong and needed to be corrected spiritually but on their way, the accused struck the boy on the head and killed him.” After killing the boy, he quickly dug a shallow grave in a nearby bush an buried the body of his son, but he was haunted by the ghost of the little boy.
Upon hearing this, the accused slumped during the arraignment in court, and confessed to the crime, adding that the spirit of his son was tormenting him. The Prosecutor then asked the court not to grant the accused bail as homicide is not a bailable offence, and to also give the police time to carry out further investigations, as the accused has not given any reason for murdering his son. The Chief Magistrate Hussaini, granted the prayer of the prosecution and ordered the accused person to be remanded at the Federal Prisons, Koton-Karfe and adjourned the case to April 28, for mention.
