Aside the allegations of scandalous and controversial recruitment
exercise into the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), more shocking
facts have emerged as to why President Goodluck Jonathan urgently
accented to the immediate sack of the ousted, Mrs Rosemary Chinyere
Uzoma.
These facts, according to the minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro
bordered on certificate forgery, fraud, injustice and tribal sentiments
in the conduct of the recent promotion exercise which led to an
outburst by a few aggrieved officers.
The revelation was contained in a speech read by the minister at a
late Thursday night closed-door meeting with top shots from the Service
and some members of the Civil Defence, Fire Service, Immigration and
Prisons Board, and while inaugurating a six-man committee to probe the
allegations leveled against Uzoma with the intention to cleanse all
corruption tendencies associated with the service.
According to the Speech, showing the former Immigration boss the way
out became necessary after receiving countless and disturbing petitions
ranging from recruiting and harbouring officers with forged certificate
in the employ of the service to non-adherence to the principle of
seniority in determining officers eligible for promotion which has
largely affected productivity in the service.
The constituted committee is chaired by the Director, Paramilitary,
Mr. Keftin Amuga, with Dr Attahiru Rufai Kawu as deputy chairman. Others
in the committee are Alh. Kurfi A. Ibrahim, Babandede Mohammed, Mr. E.
S. A. Ojo.
During the inauguration, Comrade Moro emphasised that those employed
through the use of falsified documents and those who contravened their
engagement rules should be dealt accordingly.
