The whereabouts of hospitalised governor of Taraba State, Danbaba
Suntai, is shrouded in secrecy to keep away people who might want to
harm him, state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said.
The party described as “premature” calls for the governor’s return,
saying it was “wicked and inconsiderate” to expect a man who survived an
air crash to return to work so soon.
Making the disclosure at the weekend in Abuja, the state’s PDP
Chairman, Hon. Victor Bala Kona, said the rumour that Suntai died in an
air crash led to extra-security measures. He alleged that Senator
Aishatu Alhassan, and impeached Deputy Governor, Mr. Saleh Usman
Danboyi, are persons they strongly believe were working to frustrate the
governor’s return.
“It is a miracle in the sense that it is not every plane crash in the
world that leaves passengers with what we can conveniently call ‘minor
bruises,” said Kona, explaining that Suntai was fast recuperating in a
private ward. “I spoke with him about 40 minutes ago. As we speak, the
Speaker and Chief Judge are with the governor. He is now okay, but
staying behind only on the advice of doctors in Germany.
The party chairman dismissed calls for the governor’s removal, saying
it was unnecessary and adding the the Constitution was clear on the
matter. “The constitution is clear on the matter. However, going by what
I told you, there would be no need to constitute a medical panel
because Governor Suntai will be back soon”, he said.
