President Goodluck Jonathan has appointed the immediate past National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Bamanga Tukur, as Chairman of the Board of the Nigerian Railway Corporation.
This was made known in a statement issued by the Special Assistant (Media) to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sam Nwaobasi on Tuesday.
According to the statement, Jonathan also approved the appointment of Ghaji Ismaila Bello as Director-General of the National Population Commission with effect from January 8, 2014.
The post was previously held by Kawu Baraje, the former factional PDP chairman, who resigned last year at the heat of the crisis.
Mr. Jonathan is presently in Davos, Switzerland for the World Economic Forum.
Many had thought that the Adamwa-born politician was being considered for a ministerial appointment.
DailyPost recalls that the president last Thursday, at the National Executive Committee meeting of the ruling party, promised to give Tukur a tasking national assignment.
