A Chinese worker handling the rehabilitation of the Jos-Kafanchan rail line was yesterday killed by gunmen in Kirim village of Kaura local government area of Kaduna State.
Two other Chinese who were wounded by the bandits were rushed to the Kafancham General Hospital and later transferred to Abuja.
Another set of gunmen also killed one Musa Adamu in Anzare village in Sanga local government area of Kaduna State.
LEADERSHIP Weekend gathered that two of the bandits who were later identified in Gwantu town, exchanged gunfire with policemen where one of them was killed and the other arrested.
The state commissioner of police, Mr Olufemi Adenaike, who confirmed the two incidents to journalists, said, “Yes we have captured one of the bandits and he is with us.”
It was learnt that the gunmen who attacked the Chinese came from the bush and ambushed them while they were on a trolly car and supervising other workers. They allegedly opened fire on them and killed one of them and injured two others.
Eyewitnesses said that bandits who were holed up in a bush in Anzare village, turned round to pursue villagers who had planned to flush them out of the area.
The eyewitness who identified himself John Malami said: “They opened fire from a far, and were advancing towards us. Since none of us was with a gun, we started running. Unfortunately, Adamu was old and could not run fast. They caught him and cut him into pieces.
“Later in the afternoon, some of us who went to Gwantu town saw two of the suspects taking soft drinks. We called the attention of the police and as the police were coming towards them, they started shooting, but the police killed one and captured another one,” he said.
