WHO SENT THEM? WHO INVITED THEM? RIVERS STATE IN THE EYE OF THE STORM : 320 Boko Haram Members Arrested In Rivers State ... DailyTrustNews


About three hundred and twenty persons suspected to be members of  Boko Haram Sect  were alleged to have been   arrested  by the Rivers state Police  Command, daily trust learnt yesterday in Port Harcourt.

 Police sources revealed  that the suspects  were in about twenty  buses when they were picked  up at the border point between Rivers and Imo states. They were allegedly coming  from Jigawa state when they were apprehended.

Details of the development were hazy as of press time but the suspects  were said to have been taken to the police criminal and investigative department where they are  being quizzed by the Police investigators.

Our reporter gathered further  from a security source that after searching the suspects  for arms  the Police  later asked them to write their statements. "They searched each of them. And also searched the various buses they came in with after which the Police asked them to write their statements", a source said.

When contacted for comment, the state Police Commissioner, Mr Joseph Mbu said the state Police command would not speak on the issue until investigation was concluded.

" It is a top security issue. I don't know who gave you the information and I will not want to ask. But there can be no comment for now from the state Police Command until we finish investigation. I will make no comment" he said

A source who pleaded anonymity told our reporter the suspects were in. Port Harcourt on a business and may not be Boko Haram members. He  gave the name of the driver who led the various vehicles as Bala Nato Dambam. " They sell carrots and do cobbing jobs in Port Harcourt. They are not Book Haram members", the source said.

The source said  that some of the buses thay conveyed the suspects  belonged to a transport firm that plies Port Harcourt and Jegawa.

When contacted on the development,  Chief of Staff Government House, Port Harcourt, Mr Tony Okocha said they would wait for the outcome of Police investigation on the issue.
